Thief River Falls: Jon Hruby Faces Felony Charge
THIEF RIVER FALLS (trfnews.i234.me) — Jon Michael Hruby, 29, faces a felony charge for allegedly failing to update his predatory offender registration.
According to a Pennington County criminal complaint, Hruby had been staying at a campground near Thief River Falls.
Investigators alleged he had lived in the county for approximately two weeks without updating his required registration.
The charge stems from an investigation conducted on October 1, 2026.
The case was filed in Pennington County District Court under file number 57-CR-26-693.
Investigators Locate Hruby at Campground
According to the complaint, investigators learned that Hruby was not complying with Minnesota’s predatory offender registration requirements.
Authorities also discovered an active felony warrant from Kittson County.
That warrant involved two separate failure-to-register charges under court file number 35-CR-26-130.
Investigators located Hruby’s vehicle and camper at the Falls Stay N Play Campground in Pennington County.
Authorities also received information indicating he was living at the campground.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the camper.
During the search, officers located Hruby and placed him under arrest.
Hruby Allegedly Admitted Registration Violation
Following his arrest, investigators questioned Hruby after advising him of his constitutional rights.
According to the complaint, Hruby acknowledged staying in Pennington County for approximately two weeks.
He allegedly admitted that he had not updated his registration after leaving Kittson County.
Hruby reportedly explained that family problems contributed to his decision to leave the county.
He also allegedly acknowledged failing to notify Kittson County authorities about his departure.
According to the complaint, Hruby recognized that two weeks was too long to delay updating his registration.
Investigators reported that Hruby knew he needed to address the matter but had not done so.
Previous Conviction and Pending Charges
The complaint identifies a previous conviction involving Hruby from August 18, 2020.
That conviction was for soliciting a child through electronic communication.
The earlier case is listed under court file number 45-CR-17-286.
The complaint also references the separate Kittson County registration case.
The Pennington County allegation and Kittson County charges are separate legal matters.
The supplied complaint does not establish a conviction in either new registration case.
Felony Registration Requirements in Minnesota
Under Minnesota Statute 243.166, qualifying offenders must provide required information to law enforcement.
The law includes reporting duties when certain residence information changes.
Knowingly failing to meet registration requirements can result in felony charges.
A conviction under the cited provision can carry up to five years in prison.
The law also allows a fine of up to $10,000, or both penalties.
Those are maximum penalties, not a sentence imposed against Hruby in the new case.
Pennington County Court Proceedings
The criminal complaint identifies one felony count of failure to fulfill predatory offender registration requirements.
The court document also includes an order of detention.
The prosecutor’s file number is 57-1869.
No scheduled hearing date, plea, or final ruling was included in the supplied complaint.
Hruby is presumed innocent of the new charges unless proven guilty in court.
Readers can search Minnesota Court Records Online for publicly available case updates.
Information about the campground is available through the Falls Stay N Play website.
No wrongdoing by the campground is alleged in the supplied complaint.
Additional court records would be needed to confirm the current status or final outcome.
