Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — Michael Charles Jordan, known to many as Mike, died Dec. 16, 2025. He was 80. His family said he died in rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
Early life and education
Jordan was born on March 6, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana.
He grew up in rural Indiana, his family said.
He lost his father early in life.
His mother raised Mike and his brother, Lee Jordan.
His family said he developed a love for the outdoors as a boy.
Jordan graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1964.
He later studied finance at Indiana University, his family said.

Military service
Jordan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, according to his family.
They said he served in Laos and Cambodia.
He was discharged in 1967.

Career in finance
After school, Jordan worked as a stockbroker in Chicago.
His family said he later started his own investment firm.
He founded Polar Investment Counsel in Thief River Falls.
His wife, Sherry Abbott, worked with him in the business.
Family members said he had a calm style and strong focus.
They said he often helped people understand money choices.
Flying, outdoors, and family time
Jordan earned a pilot’s license, his family said.
They said he flew to business meetings at times.
They said he also flew his mother to visit relatives.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips in Canada.
His family said he often traveled with Sherry Abbott and their son, Andrew Abbott.
They said he also enjoyed ballistics and precision work.
His family said he and Andrew started Abbott Ammo.
They said the company made ammunition as a family project.
His family said Jordan valued private time and close bonds.
They said he enjoyed travel, including a Virgin Islands trip for a niece’s wedding.
Survivors
Jordan is survived by his wife, Sherry Abbott.
He is also survived by his son, Andrew Abbott.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Lee (Nancy) Jordan.
He is survived by nieces Jackie (Chris) Gallo and Laura (Stephen) Catherwood.
Other survivors include grandchildren Anna and David Gallo.
He is also survived by Ella and James Catherwood.
Those who died before him
Jordan was preceded in death by Charles William Jordan and Esme (Schacht) Jordan.
He was also preceded in death by his half-brother, Charles “Charlie” North.
