He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962, according to family information.
After service, he graduated from a vocational technical school in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
Work and career
His working life included several roles. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He also drove over the road as a truck driver.
He later managed transportation for area school districts. Those included Red Lake Falls and Thief River Falls, according to the family.
He also owned a small business during his working years.

George Sodon married Ruth Nofsinger on June 24, 1967, in Marion, Indiana.
The couple lived in several states. They moved from New Jersey to Indiana. They later lived in Arkansas. They later settled in Minnesota.

Family members said Sodon was strong in faith and proud of his country. They described him as outspoken and spontaneous.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked garage sales, collecting, and auctions.
Family members said he also enjoyed drives with Ruth.

Sodon is survived by his wife, Ruth.

- Grandchildren: Katelyn, Lance, Ashley, Dianna, Kirsten, Cody, Travis, Kalicia, McKaylah, Steven, and Seth.
- Great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Scarlett, and Margot.

Service details
A visitation will be held at Thief River Falls Evangelical Free Church on January 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Kent Hudson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Black River Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls.
