What the report says happened

The report says Lisa Christianson of Thief River Falls was on the shoulder. It says she began driving westbound onto Center Street East. The report says she then attempted a left turn.

The report says Lillie Lundeen of Oklee was driving eastbound. She was in a 2009 Kia Sportage, the report says. The Kia then struck Christianson’s vehicle, the report says.

Christianson was driving a 2003 Buick Century, according to the report. The crash was described as a vehicle striking another vehicle. The report did not list any injuries at the scene.

Citation issued

The report says Christianson was cited for failing to yield while turning left. A citation is not a conviction. The citation can be challenged in court.

Minnesota law requires left-turn drivers to yield to oncoming traffic. You can read the right-of-way law at Minn. Stat. 169.20.

Safety reminder

Drivers should slow down when entering traffic from the shoulder. Drivers should also check both directions before turning. Extra care is needed on busy streets.

If you see a crash, call 911 for emergencies. For non-emergencies, contact local law enforcement. You can also review safe driving tips through the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
