Red Lake, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) – A 52-year-old inmate, Robin Hanson, has died while in custody at the Red Lake jail, under distressing circumstances that his wife Betty Hanson claims included ignored medical pleas.
According to Betty, his wife of 35 years, both were jailed in March after Betty was banished from the tribe and later arrested for trespassing and contempt of court. Robin was arrested alongside her, facing a charge of aiding and abetting.
Betty, currently temporarily furloughed from jail to handle her husband’s burial, says she’s only beginning to piece together what led to Robin’s death on Wednesday, April 2nd. She alleges Robin fell in jail, may have suffered pneumonia, and complained of inability to urinate—but was accused of faking it by a correctional officer.
Tragically, he was later found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced dead. Betty also claims that Robin’s nephew previously died at the same facility.
At this time, tribal officials have not issued a comment, but TRF News will continue to follow this developing story.
