Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) – A teen girl from East Grand Forks is facing a gross misdemeanor drug charge following a high-speed chase and drug discovery in Beltrami County.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Beltrami County District Court, 17-year-old Megan Ryan Barney was the front passenger in a vehicle that fled from Sergeant Herding of the Minnesota State Patrol on September 24, 2024. The vehicle was eventually stopped using a PIT maneuver.
After the stop, officers observed shards of suspected methamphetamine scattered throughout the front of the vehicle. A search of Barney’s white purse revealed a Mickey & Minnie Mouse zipper bag with a used glass smoking device, and a Hello Kitty zipper bag containing meth and drug packaging materials. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine by the BCA.
Barney has been charged with 5th Degree Drug Possession – Gross Misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up to 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.
