Stanley, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Tragedy struck Stanley on March 19 when police and sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical emergency on Adeline Drive involving an unresponsive three-year-old girl, later identified as Marjorie Galeener.
Despite life-saving efforts by police and ambulance staff, Marjorie was pronounced dead at the Mountrail County Medical Center. Officers observed clear signs of physical trauma, triggering an immediate investigation with help from the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Foster parents Raymond Johnson III and Jamie Laura Johnson have since been arrested and charged with Class AA Felony Murder, Felony Child Abuse (victim under 6), and Domestic Violence Causing Serious Bodily Injury (victim under 12).
Marjorie and her 5-year-old brother were in the Johnsons’ care while their mother, Danette Huntsalong, was undergoing treatment. Huntsalong told reporters that social services hadn’t checked on the children in over a month, despite the children’s special needs.
The disturbing lack of oversight and evidence of abuse now raises questions about North Dakota’s foster care system. The Johnsons remain in custody as this horrific case continues to unfold.
