Ramsey County: St. Paul Arrest in Minneapolis Hit-and-Run Case

RAMSEY COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) — A suspect wanted in the hit-and-run of a 9-year-old girl in Minneapolis has been captured in St. Paul after a police chase involving Ramsey County deputies.

According to authorities, the incident occurred when the suspect struck the young girl as she was walking to her bus stop in Minneapolis. The impact left her with a fractured pelvis and critical injuries. Witnesses and surveillance footage showed the driver briefly stopping, realizing what had happened, and then fleeing the scene in a GMC Yukon.

Minneapolis Police quickly reviewed surveillance footage from the area and identified the suspect’s vehicle and license plate. A statewide alert was issued to law enforcement agencies.

Last Friday, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the suspect’s GMC Yukon parked on the east side of St. Paul. Deputies maintained surveillance on the vehicle until the driver returned. When deputies attempted to make an arrest, the suspect fled westbound on Seventh Street at Arcade, prompting a pursuit.

Deputies used vehicle intervention tactics to stop the SUV and safely take the suspect into custody. Authorities identified the driver as Ira Vidal Broadway. He has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation and fleeing police.

The young victim remains in recovery from her injuries. Police say the case highlights the importance of community tips and surveillance footage in helping locate and arrest hit-and-run suspects quickly.
