St. Louis County: Hwy 169 Crash Injures Hibbing Driver

HIBBING, St. Louis County (trfnews.i234.me) — A driver was injured Saturday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 169 and East 37th Street. The crash happened at 2:06 p.m. on November 22. The Minnesota State Patrol released the updated report on November 25.

According to the State Patrol, a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling east on East 37th Street. The driver attempted a left turn onto northbound Highway 169. A 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, which was also traveling through the intersection, collided with the Caravan during the turn. Road conditions were dry at the time.

The incident is listed under reference number ICR 25311150. The last update came at 5:19 p.m. on November 25. Officials say the summary is believed to be complete. The full crash report is available on the Minnesota State Patrol website.

The Dodge Grand Caravan was driven by Nicholas James Stapleton, 22, of Gilbert. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Fairview Range Medical Center. According to the report, he was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not involved.

The Chevrolet Silverado was driven by Cory Travis Babb, 42, of Nashwauk. He was not injured. A passenger, Harper Ann Babb, 5, was also not injured. Both wore seat belts. Alcohol was not listed as a factor.

Hibbing Fire Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the injured driver. First responders worked quickly to clear the intersection and maintain traffic flow along Highway 169.

Drivers are urged to use caution when making turns at busy intersections. Misjudging oncoming traffic can lead to serious collisions, even when conditions are dry.
