SIOUX FALLS (trfnews.i234.me)—Authorities in Minnehaha County have charged 24-year-old Tyson Christians with first-degree murder in the brutal stabbing death of his girlfriend, 23-year-old Emily Eirinberg. The chilling confession came moments before his arrest inside Empire Mall, where he reportedly told a store clerk, “Sorry man, I had to do it.”

The crime unfolded on Monday, February 3, at around 7 p.m., when Sioux Falls police were alerted that Christians had told a friend he had murdered his girlfriend and left her body in a vehicle in the mall parking lot. Upon arrival, officers found Eirinberg’s lifeless body inside a black Ford Escape, suffering from multiple stab wounds to her throat, collarbone, abdomen, and pelvic areas.

Christians was quickly taken into custody inside the mall without resistance. During police questioning, he repeatedly admitted to the killing, calling it “murder” and showcasing blood-stained shorts as further evidence. Court documents reveal that Christians had planned the attack for days, first hiding in Eirinberg’s car outside her home, then later ambushing and stabbing her outside her workplace.

Investigators say the suspect initially planned to flee the state and bury her body, but he ultimately decided to meet with a friend, who later tipped off police. Law enforcement sources also confirm that Christians and Eirinberg had a history of domestic violence, with infidelity accusations and their breakup playing key roles in the tragic outcome.

Christians was initially booked into Minnehaha County Jail for aggravated domestic assault, but following an autopsy, he now faces a first-degree murder charge. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday, February 5, and is scheduled for a March 21 preliminary hearing. He remains jailed on a $2 million bond.

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Sioux Falls Police Department.
