SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – The owner of a Sioux Falls daycare has been charged with child abuse after an investigation into allegations of physical assault. 44-year-old Ametrea Christion was booked into the Minnehaha County Jail on Wednesday night and released on bond just over an hour later.
According to court documents, police reviewed video footage of the incident which allegedly shows Christion hitting the boy in the head as he tries to run away, then grabbing him by the hair before striking him again. When detectives confronted her about the video, she initially claimed it was “fake” and later denied pulling the victim’s hair.
A witness told police they saw the assault happen and expressed concern over how Christion treated the boy, stating that she said he wasn’t a normal child. The 11-year-old victim also reported being yelled at for showing emotion during the incident.
Wildflower Academy was shut down last week after an investigation began into allegations of physical abuse against children in their care. D-S-S suspended the daycare’s license on October 23rd, citing concerns over the well-being and safety of other children present.
