Senate Democrats Push for Border Security Action Amidst GOP Resistance; Special Meeting in Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Senate Democrats are attempting to force Republicans to take action on border security legislation. They plan to force a vote Thursday on a new bipartisan border security package. This legislation, negotiated by both Republicans and Democrats, aims to reduce border crossings by making it tougher for migrants to qualify for asylum and swiftly turning away those who don’t meet the criteria. The bill was previously defeated after former President Donald Trump voiced his opposition.

“I do not understand how our colleagues, particularly on the Judiciary Committee on which I serve, can go to the floor day after day and talk about drugs or talk about the border and not be willing to actually do something about it,” said Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.

Next week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement will hold a field hearing at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The hearing will discuss the effects of the current border crisis on North Dakota’s residents and communities. Scheduled for 9:00 a.m. in a ballroom at the Alerus Center, the event will be attended by North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley, the sheriffs from Cass and Renville counties, and the Walhalla Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. TRF News will provide full coverage of the meeting.
