Roseau Stop Leads to Assault, Obstruction Charges

ROSEAU (trfnews.i234.me) — A South St. Paul man faces three charges after a July traffic stop in Roseau.

Court records identify the defendant as Shon Junior Platt, 20. The case was filed in Roseau County District Court.

Platt is charged with obstructing legal process and fourth-degree assault of a peace officer. Both counts are gross misdemeanors.

He also faces a misdemeanor charge for allegedly giving a peace officer a false name.

Traffic Stop Leads To Investigation

The charges stem from a traffic stop around 11:39 p.m. on July 15, 2026.

According to the complaint, state troopers saw a pickup with a driver-side taillight out. The stop occurred near Highways 11 and 89.

The pickup entered a Cenex parking lot in Roseau. Misty Ann Wojciechowski was identified as the driver and vehicle owner.

The complaint says Platt was riding as a passenger. He allegedly gave officers a different name and birth date.

Investigators could not confirm the information he provided. Officers then worked to determine his identity.

The complaint says officers later recognized Platt and confirmed his identity.

Court records also note officers initially believed a warrant may have existed. The complaint says no active warrant was found later.

Officers then questioned Platt about his identity. The complaint says he stepped from the vehicle and tried to walk away.

Officers decided to place him in handcuffs. Platt allegedly tensed his body, pulled away, and continued resisting.

The complaint says officers took Platt to the ground. He allegedly kicked and tried to push officers away with his knees.

Backup officers later arrived and helped complete the arrest.

After Platt was handcuffed, officers allegedly found a fixed-blade knife on his waistband. The blade measured about three to four inches.

One officer suffered a cut and swollen lip during the struggle, according to the complaint.

The obstruction charge is filed under Minnesota Statute 609.50.

The assault charge is filed under Minnesota Statute 609.2231.

The false-name charge is filed under Minnesota Statute 609.506.

The two gross misdemeanor counts each carry a maximum listed penalty of 364 days and a $3,000 fine.

The misdemeanor count carries a maximum listed penalty of 90 days and a $1,000 fine.

The allegations are contained in a criminal complaint. Platt is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
