Rolette Man Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run near Belcourt

BELCOURT, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A tragic incident that occurred last August near Belcourt, North Dakota, has now led to charges being filed against a Rolette resident. Justin James Azure, aged 21, has been formally charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run incident.

On August 15th, Jonathan Lovali was discovered deceased near Betty’s Bar on Highway 281, having been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Court documents indicate that authorities determined Lovali was walking in the eastbound lane, rather than on the shoulder of the road, when the collision occurred.

Subsequently, the following week, investigators located an Impala Chevrolet suspected to be involved in the incident, missing parts and parked in Rolette. Under questioning, Azure eventually confessed to striking something on the road, initially believing it to be an animal.

Azure now faces charges including felony accidents involving death, and hit-and-run resulting in the death of a victim, along with additional charges related to drugs and providing false information to law enforcement. This development marks a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation into the tragic hit-and-run incident.
