Savage – Robert S. Forberg, age 67, of Savage, formerly of New Prague, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at his home.
Bob was born in Thief River Falls, on September 8, 1957, the son of Joseph and Eleanore (Klabo) Forberg.
He met his future wife, Katie Smith, while he was a Security Sergeant at Canterbury Downs Race Track in Shakopee. They soon married and settled in New Ulm, where he joined the New Ulm Police Department from May 1987 to November 1990. Then Bob and Katie moved to New Prague, and Bob took a job with the Shakopee Police Department in November of 1990, until his retirement in May of 2012.
Bob was an avid golfer and won many awards and trophies. He also liked his fantasy football leagues, fishing, and being on a lake. He was the “all-time quarterback” when playing yard football with his kids and nieces and nephews. The thing about Bob though, he always played to win no matter who he was competing against.
He is survived by his wife, Katie; daughter and sons, Emily, Daniel, Joseph (Drake Hunter), and William (Kaitlyn Blair); sister, Kathy (Cliff) Michaelis; and many nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eleanore; and an infant brother, Daniel Paul.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 3-6 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Bob’s Life Service at 6 p.m., both at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Ave. East, Shakopee, 952-445-2755. In honor of Bob, please feel comfortable wearing your favorite Vikings shirt or golf polo.
The family prefers memorials to Shakopee Crime Prevention Inc., 475 Gorman St., Shakopee, MN 55379.
Bob was very charismatic, he and his smile will be missed by all his family and friends.
