Rice County (trfnews.i234.me) – A serious accident occurred early Tuesday morning, May 27, 2025, when a semi-truck driven by 66-year-old Roger Don Payne of Dodge Center, Minnesota, rolled over on Interstate 35 near milepost 52 in Walcott Township.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the 2016 Peterbilt semi was traveling northbound on I-35 around 4:33 a.m. when it veered into the median ditch and overturned. Road conditions were reported as wet at the time of the crash. Payne, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys in Rochester for treatment.
Emergency responders from the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, Faribault Fire Department, and North Memorial Health Ambulance assisted at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.
