RED LAKE, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger announced on Monday that Jennifer Stately, a 35-year-old resident of Red Lake, faces federal charges in connection with the abduction of a 3-year-old boy and a tragic house fire resulting in the death of two young children.

Stately is accused of multiple offenses, including murder, arson, and child neglect. Court documents detail the harrowing events of March 15, alleging that Stately attacked two children with a knife before setting fire to the residence. Tragically, one child succumbed to a stab wound, while the other passed away from smoke inhalation, despite suffering multiple stab wounds.

After the alleged incident, Stately reportedly fled the scene in her vehicle with the 3-year-old boy, prompting the issuance of an AMBER Alert. Law enforcement located Stately and the child on Highway 71 in Todd County, leading to their apprehension. The child, upon examination at Long Prairie Hospital, exhibited signs of neglect, including multiple open sores and lesions, alongside severe dental issues.

Legal proceedings in Todd County were dropped due to jurisdictional issues, as the alleged crimes occurred on the Red Lake Reservation, falling under federal jurisdiction. Red Lake Nation’s tribal courts handle certain felony cases, while others are adjudicated in federal court.

Stately remains in custody as the legal process unfolds, highlighting the gravity of the charges she faces in connection with this tragic incident.

  1. I'm surprised they couldn't get the charges processed faster & her convicted of her crimes, based on how high profile this was & the entire state being notified about it
