Thief River Falls, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Red Lake Falls man was sentenced Friday, Nov. 15, in Pennington County District Court for possessing 29.4 grams of methamphetamine.
Kyle Travis Edgar, 40, was sentenced for a felony charge of third-degree controlled substance crime – possession. Misdemeanor charges of fleeing an officer by means other than a motor vehicle and driving after revocation were dismissed.
For the drug charge, Edgar was sentenced to 33 months in prison, stayed for three years. He was ordered to serve supervised probation for three years and complete a comprehensive assessment within 60 days of sentencing. Edgar was also required to complete the level of treatment and aftercare recommended. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $210 in fees and fines.
The charges stemmed from a May 8 incident, according to the complaint. A Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force officer and a Pennington County sheriff’s deputy observed Edgar driving near the intersection of 155th Street Northeast and Highway 59 in rural Thief River Falls. Edgar did not have a valid license. While waiting for confirmation from dispatch, officers followed Edgar to Walmart.
Upon confirming Edgar’s driving privileges were revoked and he had a possible outstanding warrant out of Red Lake County, law enforcement approached him inside the store. Edgar went outside at their request, but upon exiting, he ran. The PTPDTF officer chased and pushed him, causing both to fall. Edgar got up and began running again but slipped, allowing the officer to arrest him. Edgar apologized for running, stating he did so because he possessed drugs. He was found with 29.4 grams of methamphetamine.
