Red Lake Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — A Red Lake Falls man faces a third-degree DWI charge after a traffic stop on April 12, according to a criminal complaint.

Traffic Stop on Eighth Street

Authorities said police stopped a vehicle after an encounter on Eighth Street. Edwin Lopez, 41, of Red Lake Falls, was later arrested.

According to the complaint, officers saw signs of possible impairment when they spoke with Lopez. The complaint says he told police he had consumed seven to eight drinks before the stop.

The complaint also says Lopez did not pass field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed a reported blood alcohol concentration of 0.157. A later DMT test showed a reported result of 0.17.

Charge Filed

Lopez has been charged with third-degree DWI. That charge is now moving through the court process. A charge is only an accusation. It does not mean a conviction.

Minnesota law sets penalties for impaired driving based on several factors. These may include alcohol level, past offenses, and other case details.

Readers can review Minnesota DWI law at the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes. Court case information is also available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

What Comes Next

The case will now move through the legal system. Future hearings may address the charge, evidence, and any plea or trial schedule.

As of now, the complaint outlines what police say happened during the stop. More facts may come out in court filings and hearings.

This case remains pending in court.
