News Release 03-08-24

On 03/01/24, Heather Renee Smith (48) of McIntosh was cited for misdemeanor issuance of an NSF check. Ms. Smitch issued two separate checks to the Red Lake County Co-op in Brooks. The first check was issued on 11/14/23 for the amount of $77.62 and the second check was issued on 11/15/23 for the amount of $76.62. She will be summonsed to appear in Court in Red Lake Falls later this month.

On the afternoon of 03/01/24, a Red Lake County deputy assisted members of the Pine to Prairie Violent Crime Enforcement Task Force, Polk County deputies and Pennington County deputies with the execution of a search warrant at a Pennington County residence. Several stolen firearms were found and seized. Dennis Obert Hovet (64) of Goodridge was also arrested and taken to jail in Crookston. Mr. Hovet is facing burglary and theft charges in Polk and Red Lake Counties. The Red Lake County burglary occurred in Garnes Township in the fall of 2023. He was officially charged with felony burglary and theft in Red Lake County and made his initial court appearance in Crookston on 03/06/24. Mr. Hovet remains in custody at the time of this release.

On the evening of 03/01/24, Tristin Rhianna Johnson (19) of Warroad was arrested for operating a motor vehicle on CR. #5 south of Oklee with a driver’s license was canceled inimical to public safety. She was taken to jail in Crookston and booked for the gross misdemeanor offense. Ms. Johnson appeared in Court in Crookston on 03/02/24. She was released with court-ordered conditions and her next appearance is scheduled for 03/13/24 in Red Lake Falls.

On the evening of 03/01/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance at a Red Lake Falls residence. One of the involved parties had left the residence prior to the responding deputy’s arrival. The situation was resolved for the time being, but the case remains under investigation.

On the morning of 03/02/24, the Red Lake Falls Cenex Store reported that a customer was causing a disturbance, and they requested a deputy. A Red Lake County deputy responded, and the customer had left prior to their arrival. No crimes had been committed, but the unruly individual was trespassed from the store.

On the afternoon of 03/02/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a leaking propane tank at a grain bin site in Terrebonne Township. A Red Lake County deputy responded and was able to shut the tank’s valve and stop the leak. The owner of the tank was notified, and they claimed they would have the tank inspected as soon as possible.

On the evening of 03/02/24, the Dollar General Store in Red Lake Falls requested to speak with a deputy about a possible theft. That matter remains under investigation.

On the evening of 03/02/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an electrical box sparking in the city of Plummer. The Plummer Fire Department responded and secured the area until Ottertail Power Company crews arrived on the scene to remedy the issue.
On the morning of 03/04/24, two vehicles collided in the Cenex Parking lot in Red Lake Falls. There were no injuries and damage was minor. A Red County deputy completed a crash report and copies of the report were given to each driver.

On the afternoon of 03/04/24, Jaye Allan Pyatte (32) of Red Lake Falls was arrested in Red Lake Falls. Red Lake County held several active warrants for his arrest. He was taken to jail in Crookston. Mr. Pyatte appeared in Court in Crookston on 03/05/25. On 03/06/24 Mr. Pyatte posted $300 cash bail and was released from custody.

On the morning of 03/06/24, an individual called the Sheriff’s Office and requested assistance in getting their dog back from another person. A Red Lake County deputy intervened, and the dog was returned to its owner.

On the afternoon of 03/06/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fallen tree blocking a portion of the driving lane on CR. #1 east of Plummer. A passing motorist stopped and helped the caller remove the obstruction prior to the deputy’s arrival at the scene.

In the early morning hours of 03/07/24, D&K Corner Bar in Plummer called because an individual was demanding to purchase Off-Sale liquor, after permitted hours, and they would not leave. Red Lake County deputies responded, but the suspect left the establishment before they arrived. When the deputies were speaking to the bartender, the suspect drove by. They stopped the vehicle on Hwy. #59 north of Plummer. The driver, Jason Ray Scott (48) was intoxicated. He was arrested, taken to jail in Crookston and was booked for gross misdemeanor DWI. Mr. Scott was released from custody the following day.

On the evening of 03/07/24, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible burglary/theft at a residence in Red Lake Falls. That report is still under investigation.
