Red Lake County (trfnews.i234.me) law enforcement handled a wide range of calls from April 10 through April 16. The incidents included traffic stops, a DWI arrest, a fraud report, a crash in Plummer, and several ongoing investigations.

Calls Near Oklee and Red Lake Falls

On April 10, authorities responded to a report of a young child acting out near Oklee School. The child was taken home and released to the mother. The situation was settled without further reported action.

Later that evening, Troy James Taggart, 55, of Newfolden, was cited for speeding on Highway 32 south of Red Lake Falls.

That same night, James Marvin Hanson, 29, of Red Lake Falls, was cited after a traffic stop on County Road 12 north of Highway 92. Authorities said the vehicle had expired registration. They also reported an open alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle.

DWI Arrest and Crash Response

In the early hours of April 11, Courtney Nicole Gustafson, 34, of Plummer, was stopped on Highway 59 in Plummer. Authorities said they saw signs of illegal drug impairment during the stop. Gustafson was arrested and booked in Crookston for gross misdemeanor DUI test refusal.

She later appeared in court on April 13. She posted $700 cash bail and was released under court-ordered conditions. Her next hearing was scheduled for April 22 in Red Lake Falls.

Also on April 11, the sheriff’s office received a report of a possible release violation tied to a pending criminal case. That matter remains under investigation.

That afternoon, a deputy helped with traffic control for a vehicle being towed from a ditch along Highway 32 north of Red Lake Falls.

On April 13, emergency crews responded to a crash on Highway 59 in Plummer. A semi hauling a large farm tractor collided with a van carrying two adults and nine children. No injuries were reported. The van was badly damaged and had to be towed. The Minnesota State Patrol inspected the semi and cleared it to leave.

Fraud Report, Search, and Store Disturbance

Also on April 13, a Red Lake County resident reported check-cashing fraud. That report remains under investigation.

On April 15, Red Lake County deputies helped search for a missing man near Gully and Trail after a request from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The man was found walking on a minimum maintenance road northeast of Trail. Authorities said he had become disoriented after going into a ditch. He was then returned home.

Later that evening, deputies responded to a disturbance at Dollar General in Red Lake Falls. The report involved a dispute between a customer and an employee. The customer left before law enforcement arrived. That case is still under investigation.

Intoxicated Driving Report West of Oklee

On April 16, Red Lake County law enforcement stopped a GMC Yukon on Highway 92 west of Oklee after a report from Polk County. Authorities said both men inside appeared intoxicated.

John Patrick Goldsmith, 59, of Fosston, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DWI. He was also booked for open container and a cannabis open package violation. Dean Allan Thompson, 65, of Brooks, was cited for open container and later given a ride home.

Goldsmith was released from custody on April 17. He is expected to appear later in court in Red Lake Falls. For more county information, visit the Red Lake County website.
