TRAILL COUNTY, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – A Bemidji, Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to an amended charge of reckless driving for crashing into a Traill County Sheriff’s Office cruiser earlier this year.
On the evening of January 28, Brody Michael Cota struck the parked police vehicle on Interstate 29, approximately two miles south of Buxton. The cruiser had its emergency lights on to alert drivers of an emergency scene ahead. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Cota failed to take proper precautions and collided with the rear of the vehicle, sustaining minor injuries.
Initially charged with driving under the influence of drugs, Cota’s charge was reduced to reckless driving. Additional charges for marijuana, schedule I hallucinogenic, and paraphernalia possession were dismissed.
Cota received a suspended 30-day sentence and will be on unsupervised probation for 360 days. If he violates probation conditions, he may face jail time. He is also required to complete a chemical dependency evaluation, follow through with its recommendations, and pay $569 in restitution.
