Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Grand Forks man is facing a third-degree DWI charge after police say he was driving erratically in Crookston and tested over the legal limit, with a prior DWI on record.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the Ninth Judicial District Court, the incident occurred at approximately 1:13 a.m. on July 5, 2025, when Crookston Police Officer Olderbak observed a vehicle swerving and making a wide right turn into the oncoming lane. The vehicle was stopped in the Walmart parking lot.

The driver was identified as Samuel Lee Mitchell Gregoire, 24, of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Police reported an open case of Busch Light beer in the backseat and noted Gregoire exhibited signs of impairment during field sobriety testing.

A preliminary breath test initially registered 0.175 BAC; later readings showed 0.139 BAC, and a final breath test indicated 0.13 BAC. Court documents state Gregoire has a prior DWI conviction from 2024, elevating the current charge to third degree.

Gregoire faces up to 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine if convicted. The case is filed under 60-CR-25-1050 in Polk County District Court.
