Polk County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – Two women have been charged with third-degree murder in connection with an August 19 overdose death in East Grand Forks. Court records show the case centers on the sale of fentanyl that led to a fatality.
Authorities identified the defendants as Rachel K. Boswell of Grand Forks and Megan Kelly Thorsen, whose addresses are listed in court records as Bemidji and Grand Forks. Prosecutors allege the two provided fentanyl to a woman who later died at an apartment at 1908 5th Avenue Northeast in East Grand Forks. The victim was declared dead at the scene, where investigators found fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.
According to court filings, the investigation linked both Boswell and Thorsen to the sale of the drugs. Thorsen was already facing felony drug trafficking and possession charges in Grand Forks at the time of the alleged sale.
Third-degree murder charges for drug-related deaths carry severe penalties in Minnesota. Prosecutors continue to review evidence as the case moves forward in Polk County District Court. More information on Minnesota statutes related to controlled substances can be found at the Minnesota Legislature.
