Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Pine River man is facing two gross misdemeanor DWI charges after a crash in Cass County, according to a criminal complaint.
Court records identify the defendant as Jarred Allen Swenson, 22, of Pequot Lakes. He is charged with driving while impaired and refusing to submit to a chemical breath test. The charges stem from an April 8, 2026, incident near Pine River.
Crash Near Roundabout
According to the complaint, authorities were sent to a possible crash on Cass County Highway 1 near 16th Avenue Southwest. The scene was reported near Pine River.
The complaint says a Ford Fusion was found stopped in the roadway just east of a roundabout. The vehicle had visible damage. Debris was also scattered on the road.
Investigators say Jarred Allen Swenson was standing outside the vehicle. He allegedly told authorities he was leaving Pine River and heading east. He said he was speeding when he hit the curb in the roundabout. The complaint says the airbags deployed and the vehicle became inoperable.
Damage was also reported near light poles by the intersection. Swenson reportedly declined medical care at the scene.

Impairment Allegations
According to the complaint, investigators noticed signs of alcohol use during contact with Swenson. Field sobriety testing was then conducted.
The complaint says Swenson showed signs of impairment during the eye test and the walk-and-turn test. No signs of impairment were noted during the one-leg stand.
A preliminary breath test allegedly showed a result of .210, according to the complaint. That test is often used during roadside investigations.
Swenson was then taken to the Law Enforcement Center in Walker. The complaint says he was read the breath test advisory. Authorities allege he refused the breath test.
Prior Conviction Listed
The complaint also lists a prior DWI conviction in Cass County from December 13, 2024. That prior case is cited as an aggravating factor in the new charges.
Under Minnesota DWI law, both driving while impaired and test refusal can carry serious penalties. Public case details can also be searched through Minnesota Court Records Online.
The charges are allegations. Swenson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
