OTTERTAIL, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Craig Edward Hedstrom, 60, faces two felony charges after allegedly sending death threats through text messages.
Authorities say the messages targeted a Fergus Falls attorney and an Otter Tail County sheriff’s deputy.
According to a criminal complaint filed October 29, 2026, the alleged threats stemmed from frustration over a 2022 DWI case.
Each felony carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
Attorney Reports Threatening Text Message
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received a threat complaint around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, October 27.
According to the complaint, an attorney reported receiving a threatening text message from Hedstrom around 7:11 p.m.
The message allegedly included a death threat stating Hedstrom would “kill you with a K.”
The attorney told investigators he previously represented Hedstrom in a DWI case approximately four years earlier.
He said Hedstrom began blaming him for problems following the case.
The attorney also reported dealing with threats and unwanted visits to his law office for approximately two years.
Sheriff’s Deputy Receives Similar Threat
Investigators learned that an Otter Tail County sheriff’s deputy received a similar message around 7:12 p.m.
The message reportedly came from the same phone number and contained similar threatening language.
Both recipients told investigators they believed the reference to “a K” meant an AK-style rifle.
A family member of the deputy also reportedly received a message from the same number.
That message referenced Hedstrom losing his home and hunting land, according to the complaint.
Investigators reviewed previous calls involving Hedstrom and the attorney.
Records showed nine calls for service between August 12, 2024, and October 13, 2026.

Suspect Says Message Meant Kindness
Authorities located and arrested Hedstrom on Wednesday, October 28.
During an interview, Hedstrom reportedly acknowledged sending the messages and discussed his frustration with the earlier DWI case.
However, Hedstrom told investigators that “a K” referred to kindness rather than a weapon.
According to the complaint, he acknowledged that sending the messages was a poor way to handle his frustrations.
He also reportedly told investigators he wanted his court date.
The complaint does not establish whether investigators recovered any weapons.
Hedstrom was booked into the Otter Tail County Jail following his arrest.
Two Felony Threats Charges Filed
Hedstrom faces two felony counts of threats of violence in Otter Tail County District Court.
One count concerns the alleged threat against the attorney. The other concerns the sheriff’s deputy.
Under Minnesota Statute 609.713, threatening certain violent crimes can result in felony charges.
The law covers threats intended to cause terror or made with reckless disregard of that risk.
Each count carries a possible five-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
The supplied information does not identify a future court hearing or establish Hedstrom’s current custody status.
