MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. – Christopher Skrant, an Ohio resident and owner of Flyway Outdoors Guide Service, faces a felony theft charge and five misdemeanor counts for illegally operating as a guide in North Dakota’s Benson County. Court records reveal Skrant accepted a $1,000 deposit in January 2022 for a guided waterfowl hunt he was not licensed to provide. After failing to refund the deposit or deliver the service, Skrant was charged with felony theft.
Further charges stem from Skrant’s illegal outfitting activities in October 2022, when he accepted payments totaling $2,800 from multiple clients for unauthorized guided hunts. Additionally, Skrant advertised his services without securing the required license, leading to a Class B misdemeanor.
The felony theft charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The misdemeanors could result in up to 360 days in jail and additional fines. Skrant has prior hunting violations in North Dakota from 2019 and 2020.
Skrant is scheduled for his initial court appearance on October 28.
