John Hill, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Oak Crossing Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes, MN.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.
John R. Hill moved to Thief River Falls 20 years ago to attend Northland Community and Technical College. Â Thief River Falls became his home. Â He was known in this community for his gift to gab with anybody and everybody.
John worked various jobs in the community, including Arctic Cat, VFW, Hardware Hank, Ericco, and Woodmaster. Â He met a lot of friends that became his family through his work. Â While working at Arctic Cat he met Cassandra Olson. Â Cassandra, her husband Brent, and their family took John under their wing and he ventured out and met wonderful people in this community.
John always had nicknames for the people he was closest to.  The Olson’s grandkids were very special to John – nicknaming Miah as Monkey, Ariel as Princess, and Eric as Crazy Boy.  Brent’s mother was affectionately known as Mom.
John loved woodworking, model planes, reading, and spending time with friends.  He was the type of guy you could call in the middle of the night for help, and he’d come and get you.  He will be missed.
John is survived by the Olson Family – Brent, Cassandra, Garrett, Kyle, Chelsey, Blaine (Caitlyn), Miah, Eric, Ariel, Rylan, and Colter; and Brent’s Mom, Joyce Olson.
