Obituary | James “Jim” Weckwerth of Thief River Falls, Minnesota

James “Jim” Weckwerth, 63, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A gathering time for celebrating Jim’s life will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Eagle’s Club in Thief River Falls, MN.

James Eugene Weckwerth was born August 17, 1961 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of James Everett and Ruth Sharon (Hanson) Weckwerth. He was  baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Jim attended school in Thief River Falls graduating from Lincoln High School with the class of 1979.

Following high school Jim worked at various jobs including, Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls, Caterpillar in Fargo, ND, and Prudhoe Bay, Alaska where he was a pipefitter and inspector for the UA Local 375 Pipefitters.

In 1981, Jim and Sheri Olson became proud parents of Tricia. On February 14, 1987, Jim was united in marriage to Tami Wilcox and they became proud parents of Charel, in 1990. In 1997, Jim was blessed with a third daughter with Deb, and they named her Danielle. August 18, 2003, Jim was united in marriage to Diane Drury.

Jim earned his Associate of Applied Science in Architectural Technology and Design Degree in 2009 at Northland Community College in Thief River Falls.

In 2012, Jim began work at Forsberg’s in Thief River Falls as a Mechanical Drafter. In 2019, he became Mechanical Engineering Manager. He was very proud of his work at Forsberg’s and the team there was like a family.

Since 2021, Jim and Pam McMahon were inseparable, enjoying travel, golf, and being with friends.

Jim was an active member of the Eagle’s Club in Thief River Falls where he served in many of the offices including Chaplin, President, and Past-President; and he enjoyed playing bingo with his Eagle’s family.

His happy place was his hunting cabin near Leonard, MN that he shared with many relatives including his father and beloved uncle, David Hanson. Jim enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows, hunting, archery, shooting crossbow, fishing, he was passionate about grilling, and he was an excellent cook. With his daughter, Tricia, they were on the Phil Donahue Show about family dynamics.

Survivors include daughters, Tricia (Bill Boyer) Tibbetts of Waubun, MN, Charel (Cole Knochenmus) Weckwerth of Thief River Falls, MN and Danielle (Vinnie Rich) Weckwerth of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Shaylyn, Taylor, Alexandra, Niko, Brooklynn, Bayzleigh, Colee, Cleo and Yelena; brother, David (Tawnia) Weckwerth of Cedar Falls, Iowa; nephews and nieces, Nick (TeraLynn) Weckwerth, Justin McCahon, Lindsay (Hawk) Prive, Jennifer Ruth (Conrad) Nichuals, and Michelle Weckwerth; and Special life partner/caregiver, Pam McMahon of Thief River Falls; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Weckwerth.
