He attended Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he heard of a mission group called Operation Mobilization. He joined the mission and made four overland trips from Brussels, Belgium to India as a driver and a mechanic during the 1960’s.

On June 1st, 1968, Evert married Betty Bagaas from Argyle, MN. After marriage Evert ran his own business, Midwest Hardware and Wholesale, wholesaling cutting tools for over 50 years. Evert and Betty had two sons, George and Einer. Evert remained a lifelong hunter and active member of the Minnesota Deer Hunter’s Association.  As a family, they attended and served at the First Baptist Church, Thief River Falls, MN.
