Obituary | Dorothy “Bonnie” Heng of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota

Dorothy “Bonnie” Heng of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral service for Bonnie will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Jeffrey Lytle officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery near Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Dorothy Irene Biendara was born on March 22, 1933 at Benton County, MN daughter of Emil and Edith (Brown) Biendara. She grew up in and around the St. Cloud area, attended country school and graduated from Foley High School in 1951. Bonnie attended college for a short time until she decided to go to work full time.  She was a waitress for 3 years and then worked at the Grey Hound bus depot in St. Cloud where she met her future husband Paul Heng.

On June 26, 1959, Dorothy “Bonnie” Biendara was united in marriage to Paul Heng at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. They made their home in Brooklyn Center. In 1962, they purchased the farm in Louisville Township near Red Lake Falls where they raised their four children Darla, Marcia, Steven, and Rebecca. She worked side by side with Paul on the farm they raised hogs, chickens, beef cattle, and small grains.  In addition to working on the farm, she worked at a café in Red Lake Falls and later opened her own café. For a few years she had her own column in the Gazette.

Bonnie was very active in all of her children’s of activities and in her church.  She was a Sunday School Teacher and then served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Sunday School for 40 years.  She served on various boards and committees in the community throughout the years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and served as secretary/treasurer.  In her free time she enjoyed oil and acrylic painting, reading, sewing, quilting and embroidery, writing, gardening and crossword puzzles.  Spending time with family and friends always came first.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Darla Prudhomme of Crookston; Marcia (Brian) Schlattman of Little Falls, MN, Steven Heng of Shevlin, MN, and Rebecca (William) Miller of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Joshua (Annabelle) Prudhomme, Alex (Katrina) Prudhomme, Logan Prudhomme, Tyler (Leanne) Schlattman, and Eliot Miller; step-grandchildren Evan (Nicole) Miller, Ryan (Carly) Miller, and Jana (Cody) Schroeder;  great-grandchildren, Grayson, Jameson, Langston, Dakota, Charlee, and Ronnie; step-great-grandchildren Lillie, Logan, Liam, Kaydence, Owen, and Ariella; siblings Florence Benoit, June Byshenk, Merrianne (Dennis) Miller, Butch (Faye) Biendara, Diana (John) Stich, Mike (Shirley) Biendara; sisters-in-law Pat Biendara, Lucille Biendara, and Marlene Heng; and brother-in-law Kim Starling; along with many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband Paul, parents Emil and Edith, infant siblings Evangeline and Leona, siblings Fred Biendara, Kenneth Biendara, Richard Biendara, Margaret Starling, and John Biendara; father and mother-in-law Fred and Anna Wetenkamp, brothers-in-law Robert Heng, John Byshenk, Bill Cardoni, and Fred Anderson; sister-in-law Dianne Biendara; son-in-law Ronnie Prudhomme.
