Northwood Man's Arrest in Thompson: Passed Out at Dollar General Leads to Three Felony Charges

Thompson (trfnews.i234.me): On April 3, 2025, at approximately 10:10 a.m., the Thompson Police Chief responded to a report of a possible drug overdose in the parking lot of the Dollar General store. Upon arrival, the chief discovered 34-year-old Daniel D. Bye of Northwood allegedly passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle. A strong odor of marijuana and alcohol was reportedly emanating from the car, and an open bag of marijuana was visible on the passenger seat.

When questioned, Bye allegedly stated that he had parked there to take a nap because he had been drinking. He refused to undergo a field sobriety test and became combative during the encounter, leading to his arrest. Bye is now facing three felony charges: preventing arrest, actual physical control, and actual physical control refusal. These charges are related to alleged alcohol use at the time of this incident and during prior incidents.

Did you know? In North Dakota, actual physical control charges can be applied even if a person is not driving but is found in control of a vehicle while under the influence.
