GRAND FORKS, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A new Altru Hospital in Grand Forks is scheduled to open on January 19th. The seven-floor facility covers 552,000 square feet and includes specialized trauma care, new medical technology, and expanded services. According to Dr. Christopher Boe, the emergency department chairman, the hospital will provide improved local access to various procedures and advanced healthcare technology.
The new hospital features 220 patient beds, and the emergency department will increase from 22 to 33 beds. There are 12 operating rooms, including general, trauma, heart, neuro, orthopedic, hybrid, and robotic units. The smallest operating rooms in the new facility are the size of the largest in the current building.
Derek Goebel, the chief financial officer, noted the importance of access to specialty care within the community. One notable feature is the increased presence of natural light throughout the hospital’s public spaces, offering a significant improvement over the current structure.
Once the new hospital becomes operational, the old facility will be decommissioned and demolished to create a parking lot and a water retention pond. The emergency department at the new location will begin operations at 6 a.m. on January 19th.
