NDSU Baseball Falls to Oral Roberts at the Summit League Championship

TULSA, Okla. – Third-seeded Oral Roberts used 10 unanswered runs to top the second-seeded North Dakota State baseball team, 11-3, on day one of the Summit League Championship on Wednesday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Colten Becker provided an early spark for NDSU (19-29-1) with a two-run home run to right center to steal the lead, 2-1, in the first inning. Jake Schaffner followed it up one inning later driving an RBI single into right field to score Carson Hake to stretch the advantage to 3-1 in the second frame.

Oral Roberts (25-30-1) responded in the fifth inning pushing across five runs capped off by an Elijah Rodriguez RBI double to make the score 6-3. The Golden Eagles then started to put the contest out of reach pushing their lead to 9-3 in the sixth frame after David Herring delivered a two-run double down the right line. NDSU couldn’t get anything going the rest of the way and dropped the contest, 11-3.

Logan Knight (5-4) made the start on the mound with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work. Reese Ligtenberg made his team-leading 30th appearance for 0.2 innings, while Alex Karns closed out the final 4.0 innings.

Will Busch went 2-of-4 at the plate, while Becker added two RBI and one hit.

NDSU will face top-seeded Omaha tomorrow in an elimination game. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m., at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
