National Weather Service in Grand Forks issues details on winter storm warning

well here’s a look at grand forks on a monday afternoon looking west from the und sky cam we have a winter storm warning up and down the valley shown in the pink here off to the west a high wind warning and off to the east in the blue a winter weather advisory with high winds expected to hit after midnight well let’s take a look at the details from the national weather service in grand forks strong northwest winds after midnight with gusts up to 65 miles per hour expected a brief period period of rain or freezing rain this evening as the precipitation moves into and east of the valley precipitation will change to snow the exact timing of the changeover may be different majority of this precipitation will happen before the winds increase winter impacts after midnight into tuesday afternoon a few different outcomes remain possible depending on new snowfall and or crust on the snowpack breaking blizzard conditions possible 30 percent chance if crest breaks near blizzard conditions possible 40 percent chance of the crust holds but new snowfall available to blow around strong winds and drifting snow possible 30 chance if the crust holds holds with no new snowfall and here’s a look at the winter impacts expected ice accumulations a brief period of a wintry mix including freezing rain will lead to a glaze of ice in northeast north dakota and possibly as far south as a highway 200 corridor between 5 pm and 9 p.m there’s a 44 to 50 percent uh chance for light icing in areas north of highway 200 and lesser chances elsewhere most likely areas to receive ice accumulations are the northern red river valley and devils lake basins uh impacts from this include slick travel conditions on affected roadways so there you have it uh take it all into mind if you’re planning any traveling tonight or tomorrow possibly some freezing rain followed by wind gusts over 60 miles per hour after midnight i’m Neil Berg reporting for trfnews.i234.me
