Moorhead Server Charged in Underage Beer Sale

Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A server faces a gross misdemeanor charge following an alcohol compliance check at Sunset Lanes.

Anthony Roy Levang, 41, is charged with furnishing or selling alcohol to a person under age 21.

The case stems from a May 6, 2026, compliance check in Moorhead.

Prosecutors allege Levang completed a beer sale after reviewing identification showing the buyer was under 21.

Underage Buyers Enter Sunset Lanes

Moorhead police were conducting compliance checks at licensed alcohol businesses, according to the criminal complaint.

Two adult buyers under age 21 assisted officers during the checks.

The buyers entered Sunset Lanes at 620 Highway 75 North in Moorhead.

Each buyer ordered a Coors Light from Levang, according to prosecutors.

The complaint says Levang asked both buyers to show identification.

They provided their driver’s licenses before Levang served them beer.

A misunderstanding then occurred because one buyer had not completed payment.

The buyers returned to finish the transaction, according to the complaint.

Identification Checked Again

Prosecutors say Levang requested identification from the buyers a second time.

After reviewing one license, Levang reportedly took that buyer’s beer back.

The complaint says he had confirmed that person was younger than 21.

However, prosecutors allege Levang continued the transaction with the second buyer.

That buyer was also younger than 21, according to the complaint.

The buyer then paid for the beer using money supplied by police.

No other criminal counts are listed in the complaint.

Gross Misdemeanor Charge Filed

Levang is charged under Minnesota law governing alcohol sales to people under 21.

The gross misdemeanor carries up to 364 days in jail.

It also carries a possible fine of up to $3,000.

The case is filed as Clay County court file 14-CR-26-2561.

Readers can review Minnesota Statute 340A.503 regarding alcohol sales to people under 21.

Additional court information is available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

The charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.

Levang is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
