Moorhead Man Faces Felony Strangulation Charge

Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man faces three domestic assault charges after an alleged confrontation with his adult stepchild.

Levi Cooper, 57, is charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation.

He also faces two misdemeanor domestic assault charges.

The case stems from an incident reported on August 2, 2026, in Moorhead.

Domestic Dispute Reported

Police were called to a Moorhead residence shortly after 7 p.m., according to the criminal complaint.

A woman reported that her husband was fighting with her adult daughter.

The daughter and Cooper lived at the same residence, prosecutors say.

The adult victim told police Cooper was trying to force her from the home.

During the dispute, Cooper allegedly grabbed her neck with one hand.

She also accused him of slapping and striking her face.

The victim’s mother reportedly entered the room and witnessed part of the confrontation.

She gave officers a similar account, according to the complaint.

Victim Reports Trouble Breathing

The victim told investigators that Cooper’s grip on her neck made breathing difficult.

She also said she became frightened during the alleged assault.

The complaint says the victim’s mother left the room to call 911.

Cooper allegedly stopped the confrontation after the emergency call was made.

Cooper denied assaulting the victim when questioned by police.

He told officers that the victim had scratched him.

The complaint does not describe additional details concerning that claim.

Three Charges Filed

The felony strangulation charge carries up to three years in prison.

It also carries a possible fine of up to $5,000.

One misdemeanor domestic assault charge alleges conduct intended to cause fear of immediate harm.
