Moorhead Man Accused of Sealing Neighbor’s Door

MOORHEAD (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man faces two gross misdemeanor charges after a neighbor was allegedly trapped inside an apartment three times.

Shane Allen Jones, 32, is charged in Clay County District Court with harassment and fourth-degree property damage.

The charges stem from an incident reported on June 28, 2026, at a Moorhead apartment building.

The claims are allegations contained in a criminal complaint. Jones is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Neighbor Reports Being Trapped

Police were called to the apartment at about 8:05 a.m., according to the complaint.

The resident told officers that a neighbor had locked him inside his apartment.

Officers found the apartment door fastened shut from the outside with gold screws.

Police removed the screws and freed the resident from the apartment.

Officers then left the building. However, they returned about one hour later after another call.

The resident said his door had again been screwed shut from the outside.

Police removed the screws for a second time.

Police Called Back a Third Time

Authorities received another call about one hour later, the complaint states.

Police returned and allegedly saw Jones fastening the neighbor’s door shut.

The exterior door also had visible damage. A large “X” had been spray-painted across the door.

The resident estimated the repair cost at between $300 and $400.

Authorities later obtained a warrant to arrest Jones and search his apartment.

The complaint states that evidence connected to the incident was found during the search.

Jones also allegedly admitted that he had locked the resident inside the apartment.

Two Charges Filed

The harassment charge alleges conduct intended to injure, threaten, harass, or intimidate another person.

That charge carries a possible sentence of 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.

The property damage count is also listed as a gross misdemeanor in the complaint.
