Moorhead: Maldonado Charged in Underage Beer Sale

MOORHEAD, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Lexani Unique Maldonado faces a gross misdemeanor charge following an alcohol compliance check.

The charge was filed in Clay County District Court under case number 14-CR-26-2584.

Maldonado, 22, is accused of serving alcohol to two people under age 21.

The alleged sale happened on May 6, 2026, in Moorhead.

Compliance Check at The Meadows

The complaint says Moorhead police conducted compliance checks at licensed alcohol businesses in Clay County.

Two adult buyers under age 21 assisted police during the checks.

They entered the clubhouse at The Meadows Golf Course.

The course is located at 401 34th Street South in Moorhead.

Each buyer ordered a Coors Light from Maldonado, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors say Maldonado told them about a deal offering four beers for $20.

The buyers agreed to purchase the four beers.

The complaint alleges Maldonado did not ask either buyer for identification.

Prosecutors also allege she did not verify their ages before serving the beer.

The buyers paid using money provided for the police compliance check.

No police officer names are included in this report.

Prosecutors charged Maldonado under Minnesota Statute 340A.503.

Subdivision 2 prohibits selling, bartering, furnishing, or giving alcohol to a person under 21.

The complaint also references Minnesota Statute 340A.702.

That law classifies the cited violation as a gross misdemeanor.

The complaint lists a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail.

A fine of up to $3,000 is also possible.

Those are maximum penalties and do not represent a sentence against Maldonado.

Minnesota law also contains rules covering acceptable proof of age for alcohol purchases.

The law provides a defense involving reasonable, good-faith reliance on authorized identification.

The complaint alleges no identification was requested during this transaction.

The criminal complaint contains an allegation that has not been proven in court.

Maldonado is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
