Moorhead Door-Kick Trend Caught On Camera

Moorhead, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A viral door-kicking trend is drawing concern again in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

The trend is often called the “door-kick” challenge. It involves people running to homes, kicking front doors, and leaving while recording video.

Homeowners say the act is not harmless. It can cause damage, scare families, and lead to criminal charges.

A new video from a home in Moorhead shows a group running through a neighborhood. A hooded person then walks to a front door. The person kicks it hard and runs away.

Ryan Tofstad said the kick badly damaged his screen door.

“My screen door was pushed into the doorframe,” Tofstad said. “I had to kick the screen door out.”

Tofstad said he first heard a loud bang. He did not know what had happened until he checked his home security video.

He said the video left him worried about his family’s safety.

“Why did my house stand out?” Tofstad said. “I just felt instant safety concerns for my family.”

Homeowner Says Police Report Was Filed

Tofstad said he filed a police report after the incident. He said officers told him they knew of other similar cases.

According to Tofstad, he was told this was the fourth case that week. He also said another incident happened in South Moorhead that same night.

Valley News Live reported it could not independently confirm that number with Moorhead police.

Fargo police told VNL they have not seen a rise in vandalism reports linked to the trend.

Officials Warn It Is Not A Prank

Law enforcement agencies say the door-kick challenge can bring serious trouble.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has warned that cases may lead to charges.

Possible charges can include criminal mischief, burglary, or terrorizing. The exact charge depends on the facts of each case.

Officials also warn that door pranks can become dangerous very quickly.

In North Carolina, police said a child was shot during a ding-dong-ditch-style prank last year. The homeowner was later arrested.

In Texas, a teen was also killed in 2025 during a similar incident.

Authorities say homeowners should not confront anyone outside after a door-kicking incident.

They say residents should call the police and save any security video. Parents are also urged to speak with teens about the risks.

A short viral video can lead to damage, fear, charges, or worse.
