MnDOT Scam Alert: Fake E-ZPass Texts Targeting Minnesota Drivers

Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me)Scam texts impersonating MnDOT and E-ZPass are sweeping across Minnesota, falsely claiming that recipients owe money for unpaid tolls or violations. These fraudulent messages often include a link urging victims to pay immediately — but it’s a scam.

MnDOT has confirmed it never sends text or email messages requesting payment or personal information. If you receive one of these messages, do not click the link and do not respond.

These messages may appear convincing and mimic official logos or phrasing. However, MnDOT does not collect payments via text, and credit card numbers are never requested through email, mail, chat, or voicemail.

Authorities urge recipients to report suspicious messages immediately to the Minnesota Department of Transportation or the Federal Trade Commission.

Scammers often use “urgent” language like “final notice” or “past due toll” to pressure victims into clicking. Always double-check with official agency websites before acting on payment requests.
