AITKIN, MINN. (trfnews.i234.me) – On October 15, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence of Larry Wayne Chadwick, 63, located on 5th St NW in Aitkin, Minnesota. Chadwick was on probation for felony terroristic threats at the time of the search.
During the search, officers discovered a bullet-resistant vest in the bedroom closet and a rifle plate carrier with an attached pistol holster on the floor. Sergeant Greg Payment identified a concealed compartment between the kitchen and living room, hidden behind a false wall. Upon removing the wall panel, officers found:
- A loaded .45 caliber Kimber 1911 handgun without a serial number, containing one round in the chamber and eight in the magazine.
- A 1911 carry box with four loaded magazines.
- A fully loaded AR-10 .308 caliber rifle.
- Two loaded AR-10 magazines.
- A box of 7.62×51 ammunition.
- Two boxes of Barnes .308 ammunition.
- A box of Winchester .45 auto ammunition.
- A hand-loaded box of .45 ammunition.
Chadwick was taken into custody and transported to the Aitkin County Jail. He informed officers that he could not comprehend his rights due to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A subsequent mental competency evaluation determined that Chadwick was not competent to stand trial. Court records indicate that he is seeking voluntary mental health services through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
A review hearing is scheduled for Monday, January 13.
