Fargo, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — On April 6, 2025, officers responded to an incident at Sanford Medical Center’s emergency room in Fargo. According to court documents, a security officer reported that while an ER nurse was checking the vitals of Steven Tyrone Miller, Miller allegedly punched the nurse in the face. Miller stated to police that he struck the nurse because he believed the thermometer was placed in his mouth too forcefully. He is now facing a felony charge of simple assault on an emergency worker.

This incident highlights a growing concern regarding the safety of healthcare professionals. Healthcare workers comprise 13% of the workforce but experience 60% of all workplace assaults. In response, local advocates are pushing for legislative changes to classify assaults on healthcare workers within hospital settings as Class C felonies. This initiative aims to provide greater protection and underscore the severity of such offenses.

Assaults on emergency personnel are taken seriously due to the critical roles these professionals play in public health and safety. The legal system often imposes stringent penalties to deter such actions and uphold the integrity of healthcare environments.
