Minneapolis, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A 22-year-old man with alleged gang ties has been charged in connection with a deadly broad-daylight shooting that occurred in North Minneapolis on November 6, 2023, leaving one man dead and two others narrowly escaping a hail of gunfire.
Davant Khalil Moore has been charged in Hennepin County District Court for his role in the targeted shooting near North 33rd Avenue and Dupont Avenue North, which authorities say was connected to ongoing gang tensions between the “Lowz” and the “Highs.”
Incident Overview:
Police responded to a 911 call about a male down and found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was pronounced dead on scene, with the cause of death determined to be a gunshot wound to the chest.
Two others with the victim at the time told police they were ambushed by armed suspects after a group exited a vehicle and opened fire. The surviving victims attempted to escape through alleys and backyards but were pursued and shot at repeatedly.
Evidence & Investigation:
-
Surveillance footage and witness accounts placed a blue Toyota Camry with stolen plates at the scene.
-
Three different 9mm handguns were used in the shooting.
-
Witnesses described suspects in khaki clothing and lying in wait before the attack.
-
A 911 caller and other witnesses identified one of the shooters as a backseat passenger who exited the car before opening fire.
Two days after the shooting, police located the suspect vehicle, which fled but was later recovered. A juvenile driver, Jahon Ronnell Lynch, was arrested nearby and later charged in this and a separate police pursuit case.
Further investigation tied Moore to the crime through:
-
Surveillance footage showing him with the suspect group
-
Cellphone location data placing him at the crime scene
-
Text messages and call logs with Lynch, Lucas (another suspect), and Lyons (a third alleged shooter who was later killed in an unrelated incident)
When interviewed by police, Moore did not deny being at the scene, instead saying, “I’m not the only 400-pound person in the state.”
Authorities say messages retrieved from the phone of Tyshawn Lyons hours after the murder identified Moore by his nickname, “Fat fat.” Additional evidence also linked one of the guns used in the shooting to a prior case involving the same group.
Gang Involvement:
-
Moore, Lynch, and others were identified as members of the “Lowz” gang
-
The victims were allegedly associated with the “Highs” gang
-
The shooting is believed to be part of an ongoing violent rivalry between the two groups
Moore is not currently in custody, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
