Minneapolis Man Accused in Becker County Drug Case

Becker County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A Minneapolis man is facing serious drug trafficking charges after investigators said he helped move methamphetamine and fentanyl from the Twin Cities to Detroit Lakes.

According to Becker County District Court records, Charles Anthony Tolbert, 59, has been charged with two felony counts of first-degree controlled substance crimes. Authorities say the arrest stems from an ongoing investigation by the Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.

On September 9, investigators began tracking a silver Chevrolet Malibu tied to Tolbert. The vehicle reportedly left Detroit Lakes and traveled to the Twin Cities, stopping overnight at a Crystal hotel. The next morning, it made several stops in north Minneapolis before heading back toward Becker County.

A Minnesota State Patrol trooper later spotted the car near Motley. The trooper pulled it over after noticing it was speeding and weaving. Tolbert was sitting in the front passenger seat, with two others inside. After being read his rights, Tolbert admitted there were drugs in a black bag in the trunk.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and alerted to narcotics. Officers then found about 53 grams of acetyl fentanyl and 23 grams of methamphetamine. According to court documents, Tolbert told investigators he planned to sell the drugs in Detroit Lakes to “make money fast.” He also said he met his supplier on Minneapolis’s south side near Lake Street and usually arranged deals by phone.

On October 10, a Becker County judge issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Tolbert. He now faces serious prison time if convicted.
