Mentor Man, 79, Booked on First-Degree Murder Charge

Mentor (trfnews.i234.me) — A 79-year-old man is jailed following a shooting in rural Mentor.

Leslie Manford Anderson was taken into custody Sunday, September 20.

Anderson was later booked at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston.

Jail information lists a first-degree murder charge involving intent while committing a felony.

Shooting Reported Early Sunday

Authorities received a shooting report at about 2:48 a.m. Sunday.

The shooting happened at 32300 110th Avenue Southeast in rural Mentor.

Emergency crews found 55-year-old Shawn Alan Qualley injured at the scene.

Qualley was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Authorities have not released detailed information about Qualley’s injuries.

Anderson was taken into custody without incident following the shooting.

The jail booking lists Anderson on a first-degree murder charge.

The charge is listed as murder with intent while committing a felony.

Minnesota Statute 609.185 covers first-degree murder offenses.

Subdivision 609.185(a)(3) covers certain deaths involving intent during specified felony offenses.

However, authorities have released few details explaining the charge against Anderson.

Public reports initially described Qualley as hospitalized after the shooting.
