GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – This update comes from Sergeant Dvorak of the Grand Forks Police Department regarding an incident on the Demers Avenue Skyway in Grand Forks on Tuesday afternoon. At 3:57 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Demers Avenue in response to reports of a male subject walking on the Skyway, impeding traffic, and intentionally walking in front of vehicles.
Upon arrival, officers found the male subject walking westbound. They attempted to make verbal contact, but the individual walked to the north side of the bridge and climbed over the cement barrier. Officers continued to engage in dialogue, trying for about 20 minutes to convince the man to return to the bridge. However, he refused and eventually let go of the barrier, standing on a metal support beam. The male subject then jumped off the beam, landing on the ground.
First responders, including paramedics and officers, immediately provided aid. The man, identified as a 27-year-old from Grand Forks, was transported to Altru ER by ambulance with unknown injuries. Sergeant Dvorak expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during the incident, as traffic on the Skyway was diverted for approximately 25 minutes. He also thanked the Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru paramedics for their assistance.
