A statewide AMBER Alert was issued due to concerns for the safety of the victims, but they were found unharmed in Aanerud’s vehicle when it was stopped by authorities in Morrison County at around 7:15 a.m.
The sheriff’s office stated that Lyle Maske, a neighbor who attempted to intervene and was shot by Aanerud, has been identified as the victim of the fatal shooting. The investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
Aanerud is also suspected of burning down a home on the property where the fatal shooting occurred.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed that the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office canceled the AMBER Alert and thanked all who assisted in the search.
