Mahnomen Search Leads to Meth, Fentanyl Charges

Mahnomen (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fosston man faces two felony drug charges after authorities searched a Mahnomen apartment.

Syrus Riley Sargent, 40, is charged in Mahnomen County District Court.

The charges involve alleged possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The case stems from an incident on September 24, 2026.

Police Called To Mahnomen Apartment

According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement responded to an apartment at 2235 College Road.

The initial report involved someone allegedly barricaded in a room and being threatened with a knife.

Officers entered a rear bedroom and found Sargent and another person.

The complaint says investigators found insufficient evidence to file charges over the alleged knife incident.

Authorities continued investigating after allegedly seeing suspected drugs inside the bedroom.

Suspected Meth Seen Near Scale

The complaint says a baggie containing a white crystalline substance was visible on a dresser.

A digital scale was reportedly located beside the baggie.

The other person in the bedroom allegedly admitted using methamphetamine earlier that day.

Authorities then obtained a warrant to search the residence.

Search Allegedly Finds Meth And Fentanyl

During the search, investigators reported finding several pieces of suspected drug paraphernalia.

Those items included a digital scale and several small baggies containing crystalline residue.

Authorities also reported finding a pink paper bindle containing a white powder.

Several pieces of burned tinfoil were also recovered, according to the complaint.

A crystalline substance allegedly tested presumptively positive for methamphetamine.

The complaint says it weighed approximately 1.8 grams.

The white powder allegedly tested presumptively positive for fentanyl.

Apartment Located In Protected Zones

The complaint states the apartment was part of a public housing complex.

It was also across the street from a park and located within a school zone.

Sargent faces felony third-degree drug possession involving alleged methamphetamine in a protected zone.

That charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison or a $250,000 fine.

He also faces felony fifth-degree possession involving alleged fentanyl.

The complaint cites two previous fifth-degree drug possession convictions.

The fifth-degree charge carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment or a $10,000 fine.

More information about Minnesota controlled-substance laws is available through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes.

The charges are allegations. Sargent is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
