Mahnomen Man Sentenced to Prison in Becker Assault Case

Becker County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – A Mahnomen man is headed to prison following his conviction for felony domestic assault in Becker County.

According to court records, Aaron James Goodwin, 42, was charged with three counts after a domestic incident in May 2024. The charges included domestic assault by strangulation and violating a no-contact order. Both of those counts were later dismissed as part of a plea agreement, leaving one felony domestic assault conviction.

Several additional criminal charges from other cases were also dropped under the plea deal, according to Becker County District Court documents. The original criminal complaint was not available online.

On October 9, Becker County District Judge Gretchen D. Thilmony sentenced Goodwin to 32 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. The court granted him 507 days of credit for the time he had already served in custody.

Goodwin was also ordered to pay $210 in fines and fees, which will be deducted from his prison wages. Once released, he will remain under state supervision for the remainder of his sentence.
